An experienced and successful senior leader with a proven track record in school improvement and staff development; significant improvements to practice and results are achieved through his partnerships with schools, individuals, departments and leadership teams.

His work is focused solely on school improvement and staff development; mainly based in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 although in his previous role as Head of Staff development in a 3-16 school he supported teachers in EYFS, KS1 and KS2 as well.

His aim is to help schools, academies, colleges, organisations and teachers translate evidence-based and inspiring ideas about teaching and professional growth into effective practice by providing lively and interactive training and pragmatic and focused consultancy.

My history

A highly rated senior leader and consultant with a proven track record in staff development; Chris was part of a team that turned around an underperforming school into a successful all-through academy. He was a pioneer of non-graded lesson observation and successfully set up an effective teacher enquiry-based professional growth culture at his own school. Chris has also been part of several teams that have taken schools out of unfavourable categories to secure much improved judgements in inspections. The training he provides is always bespoke to precise needs, very well received and highly rated. Training is always active, engaging, informative and full of proven practical solutions and strategies.

Chris has been an inspirational influence at Bradley Stoke Community School. He has worked with our middle leaders, developed and grown their confidence and skills, helped them reflect on what is really important about what they do and ensured an absolute focus on the delivery of the very best teaching and learning. His assured and approachable delivery style and training instantly engaged our staff and they have continued to talk about Chris’s considered approach to self-improvement within their teaching on a regular basis and have referenced him frequently within the work they are doing with their teams. It has undoubtedly impacted on everyday practice in the classroom – every member of staff proudly displays their ‘learning pledge’ which is the focus of their personal professional development and have been more focused on their appraisal and self-evaluation than ever before. They want to improve and have the tools, support and clarity to do just that which is precisely what Chris gave them. His work with two of my senior leaders has helped them become far more strategic in their thinking about how best to move teaching and learning at BSCS onwards and his drip-feeding of key principles of planning and change management has enabled them to have far more impact within their areas of responsibilities and to lead others with greater clarity and skill. Finally, all of this work has been done and developed through Chris’s own highly skilled coaching techniques which he has also shared and developed with all of our leaders within the school. We can now truly say we are a ‘coaching school’ and without this ethos and focus on self-reflective practice we would not have improved our teaching and our student outcomes anything like as significantly. Importantly, the ripple of this professional development is still increasing and we are building on it to further improve the quality of the teaching and learning across the school and the professional development of our staff.

I have had the pleasure of working alongside Chris Moyse for the past 7 years as one of my senior colleagues. Chris has been an instrumental part of our team that took an inadequate – (Grade 4) standalone secondary school converting it into a highly effective ‘Good’ (Ofsted 2016) all-through school with a Progress 8 score in 2016 of +0.52.
