Alex Bell

Portland Education was founded by Alex Bell to bring together the best in innovative thinking from education, business and the arts.

Alex is an experienced and sought-after facilitator, conference speaker, leadership coach and senior leader in education.

He has lead two London schools in challenging circumstances to be Ofsted rated ‘outstanding in all areas’ and designed and delivered bespoke facilitation in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America for a range of schools, NGOs and leading organisations.

With Portland Education, Alex creates and delivers bold and innovative education and outreach programmes with international government, schools and charities. His work with schools and communities in Barbados as part of their 50th anniversary of independence commemorations was selected to be part of their national monument unveiled by Prince Harry, is part of the Barbados Museum and British High Commission’s permanent collections and was selected to be the Prime Minister’s official Christmas card in 2016.

Alex provides professional coaching to over 100 senior leaders, strategic thought-leadership with school teams and mentoring to emerging talent throughout the UK.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, a member of its Innovative Education faculty and Fellowship Councillor for creative education globally. He is a professional ambassador for the British Council and is currently researching a book on ‘Bold, brave and authentic leadership’ for school leaders.

Alex’s projects will extend to co-ordinating ‘Malawi talks – world listens’ youth conference in Malawi in 2018.

For 2018, Alex has added directorship of to his portfolio. Up to 100 teen young leaders fly into the UK to meet with world class innovators, entrepreneurs and activists before taking part in a global contest to create STEAM solutions to pressing issues in their home countries.

Alex is also filming and editing his full-length documentary ‘School is Yesterday. This is School’ due for release at the end of the year and premiered at the Eden Project, Cornwall – just two miles from where he was educated as a child.
