About

Simon

Simon is Head Teacher at St Leonard’s Church of England Primary School in Streatham, London. With over 25 years teaching experience, he has taught across the primary phase and undertaken a variety of leadership roles including responsibility for creative arts, gifted and talented pupils and assessment.

Achieving the National Professional Qualification for Headship in 2010, he has been head teacher at St Leonard’s since April 2011, bringing the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) to the school in 2012. The school, having only expanded its Early Years provision in September 2016 was judged outstanding in all categories by Ofsted in March 2017, as well as achieving IPC accredited school status in the same month.

A passionate supporter of a broad curriculum which has the expressive arts as part of its core, Simon has been keen to ensure that assessment is developed appropriately for all subjects and is not over reliant on testing.

Simon, who first became aware of Leadership Matters in 2016, has written the book, Leave A Light On – Why Your Leadership Matters, which is the Primary case study for Leadership Matters which is available on Amazon. Simon has a particular interest in developing the leadership skills of others as well as his own. Having coached final year students for entry into the profession and been a mentor for newly qualified teachers, he is also now an experienced mentor and coach of new head teachers and a trainer for SSAT. Away from teaching, his life can be summed up as family, football, music and Italy!
