About

John

John Camp is Executive Headteacher of The Compass Partnership of Schools in Greenwich, London. The partnership is a federation of seven primary schools including one special school.

John started his career in the London borough of Southwark in 1991, and moved to Greenwich in 2001 as deputy of an outstanding primary school. He became Head Teacher of Deansfield Primary School in 2008 and has been Executive Head Teacher of the Compass Partnership since 2011. The federation has grown over the past six years as a result of its reputation for outstanding change leadership and innovative approaches to developing curricular and teaching that is creative and engaging.

The schools in the Compass Partnership place a high value on the learning environment as a key driver for positive behaviour. As none of the schools use any extrinsic rewards for learning or behaviour, the imaginative display of great outcomes becomes the key vehicle for celebrating learning of the highest standard.

Leadership has been judged as outstanding by OfSTED and has been instrumental in turning around the fortunes of five schools in very difficult circumstances. The group is one of the Teaching Schools in the Royal Greenwich Teaching Schools Alliance and provides a range of teacher development opportunities for other schools. The partnership supports a number of schools and groups of schools across the south east.

The group has just opened a secondary phase to its special school in September 2015, making this is an all through school for children with very complex needs.

John is particularly interested in the dynamics of school culture and the importance of social justice and equity being at the heart of schools and education.
